If you are looking to maximize your online productivity I highly suggest you look into using Flock. As I mentioned in a prior post, this is one of the tools that I believe many (especially bloggers) people will find to be extremely helpful in their endeavor to streamline their social networking activities. Flock is a browser that allows you the ability to effectively find and share content while monitoring conversations occurring within your social networks. I believe you will find the following features to be beneficial:
People sidebar: If you belong to several social networking sites, this feature allows you the opportunity to monitor activity taking place on these sites. This feature is especially convenient when you are researching information, but do not want to miss out on the action. You also have the ability to update your status on several social networking sites by selecting the broadcast option (this operates similar to Ping.fm).
Email: If you have more then one email account, you can easily set up your profiles to alert you when you receive new mail. You are able to see the subject heading of your emails across all of your accounts saving you the trouble of opening a new tab.
Web Clipboard: I am sure you have seen pictures, quotes, etc. that you would like to share with your family and friends. Flock enables you to easily do so without having to go through the hassle of copying and pasting. You literally just highlight the content (i.e. pictures, links, etc.) you wish to share, drag and drop it onto your web clipboard, social networking site, etc. in order to easily access your content. I recommend creating folders because this will enable you to organize your content by type (i.e. pictures, links, etc.).
Blog Editor: I think this is a really great feature because it allows you the ability to publish your blog post from this browser. You can easily access content from your web clipboard to include in your post and publish it all within the browser without having to log on to your blog site. For example, you do not have to go to the WordPress website to publish your blog post because all you need to do is select Flock’s Blog Editor feature and you are able to do so from there.
These are just some of the reasons why I enjoy Flock and hopefully have convinced you to give it a try. This browser is definitely worth checking out, but keep in mind that there are some features that I feel need to be improved:
Social networking options: Flock enables you the ability to monitor several social networking profiles, but I still feel like it is lacking in this area. How can you have Twitter, Facebook and Delicious as options, but fail to include sites such as LinkedIn and StumbleUpon?
Twitter Sidebar Feature: I enjoy not having to hop to a different screen or application to see what is happening on Twitter. However, the functions that are offered are extremely basic. I would love to see this feature evolve into a blend of TweetMiner and Socialoomph (i.e. posting future tweets, sending emails of @replies, groups, etc.).
Add Facebook Fan Page Profile: Although you can monitor what is happening within your personal Facebook account, you do not have the capability to do so with your fan page. It would be nice to be able to keep an eye on what is happening without physically having to go to the page (I am sure those in charge of monitoring their organization’s social media endeavors would be extremely grateful for implementing this feature!).
The need for speed: Flock is powered by Mozilla (the same folks who created Firefox) and lately seems to be increasingly susceptible to running slow or crashing. I wish both browsers would have a faster operating speed like Google Chrome (the Google Chrome browser is extremely fast and hardly ever crashes). Flock has some really great features, but users will not be able to see them if they keep encountering slow uploads and crashes.
There are so many wonderful features that this browser has to offer and yet, you rarely come across articles regarding this browser. Do you use Flock? What do like or wish to change?
